A Primer for Saying
Morning & Evening Prayer Rites I & II
During Lent

 

NOTE:  Before you begin to say the Offices, it is best to find a spot where you won’t be disturbed and can create sacred space by lighting a candle or some similar practice and take a few minutes to just settle down and become quiet inside.

The Lessons & Canticles
First Lesson: 
(This lesson Is always taken from the Old Testament.  If two lessons are read at Evening Prayer the Year One Old Testament Lesson from the corresponding day is read as the First Lesson.)
First Canticle: 
(A canticle is said after each lesson and the tables for Morning & Evening Prayer are found on pages 144 & 145.  The canticles are found within the body of the Office being said.)
Second Lesson: 
(It is the practice for the second lesson of Year Two to be the Gospel reading.  At Evening Prayer the  New Testament Lesson as the second lesson.)
